Itineraries
Day 1

Arrival - Budapest
Following your arrival in Budapest and transfer to our hotel, get some rest or head out for a short walk and a chance to meet the city. In the evening, we will meet in the hotel lobby for drinks and snacks. As we get to know each one another, we will toast to the holiday season and the adventure ahead.Day 2

Buda
After a hearty breakfast at our hotel, we will head to the Buda side of the Danube and up to Buda Castle. Parts of the complex date to the mid-13th century, and from the Fisherman's Bastion, the location is a perfect one for gazing across the river at the Pest side of the city in its holiday splendor. We make our way back across the river and back to the hotel. The afternoon is free for traveler's to get a bit of rest or explore on their own. At 06:30 pm, we will meet and head over to our first Christmas Market, the one fronting the beautiful St. Stephen's Basilica. Seasonal traditional foods, ice skating, gift shopping and a chance to step inside the stunning church that is a city landmark.Day 3

Pest
We will tour the eastern side of the city, often referred to as the gateway to Asia. Starting at the sprawling Central Market Hall, we will stroll the Veres Páliné promenade, ending at the second major Christmas Market at Vorosmarty Square. After shopping and lunch, we will walk up Andrássy út, the "Champs-Élysées" of Budapest, stopping at the House of Terror Museum where the dark history of the Nazi and Communist occupations of Hungary are detailed. A bit further up Andrássy út, we will come upon Hosök tere, the striking monument to Hungarian heroes, and the stately Vajdahunyad Castle with its massive Christmas ice rink. In the evening, an optional visit to one of Budapest's ruin bars.Day 4

Your Own Budapest
It’s your turn to get out and explore Budapest on your own. Many interesting and unique opportunities still await you, such as: - Budapest for History Buffs - The Thermal Baths of Budapest - Art & Culture options - Walk the Chain Bridge or cross the Szabadság Bridge and hike up to the Liberty Statue and Citadella - Return to Buda Castle to tour the labyrinth of underground passageways and the site where Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned, and / or the “Hospital in the Rock” The Tour Leader will be happy to get you pointed in the right direction or make arrangements to get you headed toward your chosen destinations. Or if you prefer, head out with the Tour Leader — maybe to one or more of the sites above, or maybe to some spontaneous destination.Day 5

Budapest to Vienna
We head north by early motor coach, we make our way across lovely countryside toward the Austrian capital of Vienna. After getting checked in at our hotel, the afternoon is yours to begin an exploration of the city of composers and philosophers.Day 6

Schönbrunn & Welles
After breakfast, a short metro ride gets us out to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace to spend the morning touring the massive grounds and accompanying Christmas Market. The palace, the gardens, the museums, the zoo, the Gloriette, and the maze, make for a full morning taking in imperial Austrian history. Heading back into the city, we grab lunch before a bit of fun: a fun ride on Vienna’s Giant Ferris Wheel, immortalized by Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles in the 1949 film, “The Third Man.” As darkness falls, it's the grand Viennese Christmas Market, situated directly in front of the stunning architecture of City Hall.Day 7

The Arts
This morning, we will take in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, a stunning repository of five millennia of human history. After lunch, it's a "speed dating" sequence of Christmas Markets. Vienna has 17 identifiable Markets — you won't be able to say that you made it to them all, but you will be able to tell your friends the many ways that Vienna at Christmas is a snow globe come to life.Day 8

Your Own Vienna
Time again for you to get out and explore on your own — this time Vienna. Some of your choices include: - Visiting other world class museums such at the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Belevedere, the Leopold Museum, the Imperial Crypt, the Imperial Treasury, or the Jewish Museum to name only a few, - Make your way to other palaces or castles like the Winterpalais, Schloss Hof and Niederweiden, Esterházy Palace, or the Klosterneuburg Monastery - Walk in the world of great composers by visiting the homes, birthplaces, or final resting places of Beethoven, Strauss, Schubert or Haydn - Tour the Vienna Opera House or take in a performance - Seek out any (or many) of the remaining Christmas Markets Again, the Tour Leader will provide any needed assistance in getting to your excursion destination. And you remain welcome to accompany Tour Leader for the day.Day 9

Vienna To Prague
Another early motor coach gets us on our way to the "Paris of Eastern Europe": Prague. After getting checked in at our hotel, head out into one of the world's favorite cities.Day 10

Old Town Square & "The Clock"
We start at Old Town Square with its Astrological Clock, Old Town Hall and St. Nicholas Church; just some of the buildings surrounding the large Christmas Market. Then, we walk the historic Charles Bridge to cross the Vltava River and head up the hill to Prague Castle. On the grounds overlooking the city, we will see St. Vitus Cathedral, the Powder Tower, the Old Royal Palace and Vladislav Hall, the Golden Lane, and the Royal Gardens. On the way back down from the Castle, we’ll take a route past the John Lennon Wall and the Kafka Museum. Dinner is at he gorgeous Café Louvre.Day 11

Wenceslas Square and the Grotto
Wenceslas Square starts off the day and a walk past the cluster of Christmas Market kiosks there on our way back down to Old Town Square where we’ll make sure to be in front of the Astronomical Clock as it strikes the hour. Following a stroll through the Jewish Grotto, a tram ride will get us across the Vltava, this time to take a funicular ride 1,000 feet up to Petrin Hill to tour the landscaped gardens, see a miniature Eiffel Tower, a mirror maze and the Church of St. Michael.Day 12

Your Own Prague
Time to take advantage of setting your own itinerary for the last day of the tour in Prague where you can experience activities such as: - Visit the Communism Museum or examine the intrigue and spy-toys at the KGB Museum - Settle in to one of countless historic beer halls to enjoy a stellar Czech brew…or two (the Beer Museum has 30 beers on tap). - Enjoy a cruise on the Vltava for a river view of Prague - Savor a pork knuckle with a friend, or indulge in other Czech cuisine - Grab your camera and just see where your feet take you on a day of photographing one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. The Tour Leader is there is assist you getting out for the day, or you can tag right along with the Tour Leader for the day.Day 13
